The official blog light of the JPLC

The official blog desk lamp of the JPLC is the Knoll Copeland light. I picked this up a couple months ago and when I opened the box, I was just shocked at the size of the light, as well as the appearance. However, it's uniqueness has definitely grown on me and I have decided that I'm going to be holding on to this Bad Larry. This is modern lighting at its finest, and I'm fortunate enough to own this piece. The Copeland Light gets its name from award-winning designer Stephan Copeland, who is a passionate advocate for modern, industrial style design and functional aestheticism. The Copeland light accomplishes just that; with its cast iron base, steel arm, ABS shade, and aluminum axle, this intricate desk lamp "integrates design dexterity with workplace needs." The light is extremely versatile and enables a 180 degree movement to accommodate a larger work area; furthermore, its dual mode lamp head, can direct light to a specialized, focused area, or to the general vicinity of a whole room, which is a key component for this user-friendly design.

I give this lamp an overall grade of A-. First of all, I love the options that come with Copeland Light-The 180 degree swivel movement is incredibly easy to operate, and is definitely a bonus in terms of versatility. When the lamp gets in the way (which it often does because it is so huge) you can just move it aside so easily with the swivel. The design is also really growing on me and I really do like it's modern industrial appearance. It is no wonder why this light won the prestigious NEOCON 2005 Silver Award for design. The only drawback to this light is that it is so large, that the base takes up quite a bit of space, and if you have a small desk like I do, the light commands a larger than normal portion of the desktop. Still, an A- isn't half bad and I fully expect to have this for the next ten years (at least). I have included some personal photos of my Copeland Light here, and one of the pictures comes from All Modern Lighting.
Thanks for reading folks! Be sure to let me know what you use for your desk lamp. I realize that the desk area is looking a little messy in my pictures and the lamp a little dusty. After I saw the pictures, I immediately did a wipe down, but I apologize if I've offended anyone.
