Brother Ali

Today I'm doing a post on a rapper who I saw live in concert last week-Brother Ali. Staying with the theme of writing about people and designs that are decidedly different, Brother Ali certainly fits the bill. Why? Because Brother Ali is an Albino Muslim rapper from North Minneapolis, Minnesota. yeah...That's right, he has a rare genetic condition called albinism, leaving him with limited eye site and no skin pigmentation. However, that doesn't hold him back as he is more concerned with people being indifferent to his music, than he is about them being hostile to his physical differences. Brother Ali carries with him a proud confidence that is almost unmatched but is not to be mistaken for arrogance. On Wednesday night, as he stepped on the stage, one of the first things he said to the crowd was "If you know you're beautiful and you like what you see in the mirror raise your hand. If you think you're a sexy beast raise em up." This came as a surprise to the audience as he moved into some impressive rap flows and beats with mesmerizing precision. The show took off and he never seemed to falter or tire-says Brother Ali, "So my main thing was not to be forgettable, not to be mediocre. I honestly felt the whole time I was rapping that people would feel it, that somebody would feel it.” And everyone felt it at the show, no doubt.
